Ojougboh: Former House Of Reps Member Passes Away While Watching AFCON Semi-final

Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency in Delta State, died on Wednesday evening while watching the AFCON semi-final match between Nigeria and South Africa.

Sources close to the APC chieftain revealed that he suffered a massive heart attack and slumped when South Africa scored a penalty against Nigeria.

Despite efforts to revive him, he couldn’t be resuscitated.

As of now, the family has not issued an official statement regarding his demise.

Augustine Ekamagule, the publicity secretary of Agbor Community Union, confirmed Ojougboh’s death, stating that he passed away in Abuja during the Nigeria vs. South Africa football match.

The President General of the Agbor Community Union, Chief Laurence Onyeche, shared that Ojougboh’s demise occurred around 3 a.m. following the unfortunate incident during the match.

Describing Ojougboh as a fearless politician, Onyeche expressed condolences on behalf of the Agbor Community Union, noting the significant loss in Nigerian politics.

Friends and political associates have taken to social media to mourn the departed politician.

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Cairo Ojougboh.

In a statement signed by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, the president extended condolences to the Ojougboh family, the government, and the people of Delta State.

Tinubu prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed and urged the family to find strength and hope in God Almighty and the cherished memories and legacy of the late APC chieftain.

Similarly, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 general elections, expressed his condolences over Ojougboh’s passing. 

In a post on his verified X account, Atiku described Ojougboh as a close friend and a shining example of patriotism

He mourned the loss, emphasising Ojougboh’s dedication to Nigeria and praying for his soul to rest in perfect peace.
