A group, the Yoruba Nation, has condemned the claim that Ekiti Chieftain Pa Olowofela was behind the attacks in the state, News About Nigeria reports.
The group registered its displeasure via its Twitter page on Wednesday in a tweet titled “The Game of Misdirecting the Blame – The Case of Pa Olowofela,” stating that Nigerians are only looking for someone to take the blame for the attacks.
The group maintained that the rumours that the abductors and killers of three Ekiti monarchs in Ekiti and Kwara states were being sponsored by Pa Olowofela, who is an Octogenarian, are being peddled by unconfirmed sources on social media, who are reporting based on whatever source they have.
“Such is the nature of social media these days, where unconfirmed rumours and completely fake news can take cyberspace by storm in a matter of hours if not minutes; and as always, there is always a victim, or if you will, a ‘fall guy’,” the tweet stated.
Recall that one of the captured Fulani kidnappers in Ekiti, who goes by the name Alhaji Baboga Ladde, was said to have made a statement that he ‘worked’ for Pa Olowofela.
The group, however, noted that questions should have been asked as to what kind of job Ladde does for the aged Ekiti senior citizen, querying that the question was totally ignored in their quest to find a fall guy.
The group further noted that after investigations, it was discovered that Ladde worked as a manual labourer and security guard for Pa Olowofela in his saw-milling factory at Irele Ekiti.
“As of today, none of the baseless accusations based on the social media trial have been substantiated by any law enforcement agency in the country, and neither has any judicial body found him guilty of any allegations,” the group stated.
