Sonny Kuku Installed As 4th Ogbeni Oja Of Ijebuland

On Saturday, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, installed Olor’oogun Sonny Kuku, the co-founder of EKO Hospital, as the 4th Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland.

News About Nigeria gathered that the installation coincided with Kuku’s 80th birthday celebration

The event, held at the Ojude Pavilion, witnessed a gathering of dignitaries, well-wishers, relatives, friends, and associates from across the country, all coming together to witness the ceremony.

Notable figures in attendance included Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

Former governors of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, Ibikunle Amosun, and Gbenga Daniel, were also present.

The installation of Olor’oogun Sonny Kuku as the 4th Ogbeni Oja follows in the footsteps of his late uncle, Bayo Kuku, the 3rd Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, who passed away in 2015.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his address, commended Kuku’s achievements in medicine and business, and his commitment to the development of Ijebuland.

He said, “Your accomplishments in the medical world and philanthropic gestures indicate the positive impacts you are capable of bringing to Ijebuland and Ogun State at large, and we urge you to use your new office to pursue the benefit of all.”

The Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona, mentioned that Kuku’s selection as the 4th Ogbeni Oja was based on merit and his longstanding loyalty to the Awujale throne.

He urged Kuku to continue using his global networks for the socio-economic development of Ijebuland and Ogun State.

In his response to the honour, Olor’oogun Sonny Kuku expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am highly elated with this honour, and I am grateful to Awujale for considering me for this highly exalted office of Ogbeni Oja. I receive the honour with a great sense of humility, and it is really a call to serve, and God helping me, I will do my best to seek further growth and development of Ijebuland and Ogun State as a whole.”

Fassy Yusuf, the Baagbimo of Ijebuland and Chairman of the Installation Committee said that the choice of Olor’oogun Dr. Sonny Kuku for the position was fitting, given his achievements and commitment to the development of Ijebuland.
