On Monday, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, visited the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, to commiserate with him and the people of the state over the explosion that rocked some parts of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
News About Nigeria reported that an explosion linked to illegal miners rocked some parts of Ibadan on January 16, leading to the death of five people while about 20 buildings in the area were destroyed by the explosion.
In a post shared on his official X account, Obi revealed that he went on the solidarity visit with popular human rights activists Aisha Yesufu, Dele Farotimi, and Dr. Moses Paul.
During the visit, Obi sympathised with Governor Makinde, the families of the victims, and the entire people of the state.
While decrying the impact of the explosion, which led to the loss of some lives, shattered the means of livelihood of some people, and also rendered some others homeless, the former Anambra state governor stated that they are continuously in his thoughts and prayers.
Obi further revealed that he would donate his token to the payment details provided by the state government to support the people in these hard times.
“We all, as one big family, share in their pains and discomforts at this time. Again, I pray God to grant eternal rest to the dead and quick recovery to the injured,” he added.
The Labour Party flagbearer in the last election also lauded the governor and his team for their prompt intervention in setting up an emergency centre and a donation channel to help the victims of the tragic incident.
