Fubara Storms Rivers Assembly Amidst Impeachment Threats

The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has appointed Ehie Edison as the new Chief of Staff and five others as special advisers, News About Nigeria reports.

Edison, who is an ex-factional speaker of the State House of Assembly, along with the five special advisers will be inaugurated today.

This was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, titled ‘Government Special Announcement.’

The letter read in part; “His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, has approved the appointment of the underlisted as Chief of Staff and Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor.”

The letter also noted that the Chief of Staff and Special Advisers, along with one guest each, which have been approved for the appointees to bring, are expected to be seated at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House on Monday, January 29, 2024.

Recall that Ehie, who opposed a plot by 27 pro-Wike lawmakers to impeach Fubara, resigned from the House of Assembly last Saturday.

Though Ehie did not give any specific reason for resigning, Fubara, speaking on Monday, said Ehie’s exit was part of calculated moves to give peace a chance and resolve the political crisis engulfing the state.

Also, addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the Secretary of Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Maobuye Nangi-Obu, urged Fubara to appoint Ehie as his Chief of Staff, stating that he had a good understanding of governance and the rule of law.

“In fact, if there is anything higher than the Chief of Staff, Ehie deserves it. The governor should quickly appoint him,” he said.
