Kebbi Government Organises Mass Wedding For 300 Widows, Divorcees

The Kebbi State government, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, has organised a mass wedding for over 300 people at the Gwandu Emirate Palace in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

News About Nigeria gathered that the move was to address the challenges faced by widows and divorcees.

The event, coordinated by the NANAS Foundation, a pet project of Hajia Nafisa Nasir Idris, the wife of the governor, was to provide support and assistance to those who had experienced marital hardships or were in financially challenging situations.

Hajia Nasir Idris said that the government is willing to offer assistance to citizens in need.

She stated that the mass wedding was initiated to alleviate the difficulties faced by divorcées, widows, and economically disadvantaged people who might struggle to afford the costs associated with marriage.

The governor’s wife stressed the importance of providing essential items such as beds, chairs, and kitchen utensils to help these individuals establish and maintain their households.

During the occasion, a total of 21 million naira was paid as dowry to the parents of the brides.

Each bride received a dowry of N70,000 (seventy thousand naira), along with a set of chairs, beds, kitchen utensils, and food items.

The mass wedding was officiated by Sheik Aminu Daurawa, a renowned Islamic cleric from Kano State.

Very Important Personalities (VIPs) were in attendance from local government chairmen, top political figures in Kebbi, and officials from Hisbah, who played a crucial role in organising the event and selecting beneficiaries from the 21 local governments.
