FG To Pay Death Benefits To Deceased Civil Servants

The Federal Government has revealed that it will begin prompt payments of death benefits to deceased civil servants, News About Nigeria reports.

The Federal Civil Service, the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, made this known while speaking in a meeting facilitated by the insurance administration department in the OHCSF and insurance desk officers in various MDAs, as well as the Para-military formations on Wednesday, in Abuja.

She insisted that desk officers in Ministries, extra-ministerial Departments and Agencies, MDAs, must implement the Group Life Assurance Policy and and ensure that the death benefits are paid to the beneficiaries of deceased civil servants across the country.

Yemi-Esan, who was represented by the director in charge of the office of the Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare, SWO, in the OHCSF, Dr. Kemi Adeosun, further urged the officers to strive to qee that they make continuous improvement and progress in processing the payments of claims by government accredited insurance brokers.

The Head of Service of the Federation maintained that the quick processing of necessary documentation of the deceased personnel will also help in facilitating adequate budgetary provisions, adding that lateness or delay in processing of benefits accrued to civil servants who died while in active service will not be tolerated.

Also speaking, the Director of Insurance Administration in the OHCSF, Mr. Abubakar Maijama, noted that the OHCSF will coordinate the procurement of group life insurance policies for all civil servants by the provision of the Act, which has also been approved by the Federal Government.
