A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kayode Ajulo, has called on the Federal Government to constitute a task force that will monitor the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), News About Nigeria reports.
Ajulo made this call to the federal government while speaking on Arise TV on Monday, noting that it was necessary to expose officials of the Commission who were involved in corrupt practices.
He noted that the EFCC is a critical institution in the country and therefore cannot be allowed to falter, reiterating that President Bola Tinubu needs to set up a taskforce to ensure that the right thing is done.
He stated that corrupt tendencies, powers, and principalities have made the Commission not fly, maintaining that these corrupt people and practices need to be flushed out of the Commission.
He, however, noted that the task force is not something that will be permanent, and it’s aim will be to act as an auditing and integrity test to check those who are corrupt, eliminate them, and bring back EFCC to its real mandate.
Ajulo also recounted how the Commission worked as it should and carried out its duties with diligence and integrity in the early days, and lamented that the Commission has already abdicated its responsibility and the very essence of which it was created seems to have been lost, particularly by the operators of the EFCC.
Recall that the anti-graft agency boss, Ola Olukoyede, raised the alarm during his New Year address to staff members about the craze for gratification and bribes among the commission’s investigators.
