Ibadan Blast: Nuhu Ribadu To Head Investigation

The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, will be heading the investigations into the explosion that rocked Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, last week, News About Nigeria reports.

It was disclosed that Ribadu, in the company of the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, will be visiting the site of the explosion in Bodija today for an on-the-spot assessment and also to take a direct briefing from the state government and its investigators.

Recall that last week, a blast suspected to be caused by illegal miners rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan.

Various officials from the government visited the site of the explosion, commiserating with the governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, and also offering their support in the rescue of victims, among them Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Alake, who visited the scene of the blast over the weekend, noted in a statement that the Federal Government would make a categorical statement on the blast after the result of the forensic investigation, led by Nuhu Ribadu, is released.

He noted that his ministry has deployed Mine Inspectorate officers to the scene of the explosion to join other security agencies in unraveling the cause of the explosion, adding that he will ensure they get to the root of the cause of the explosion.

“The Federal Government is now waiting for the outcome of forensic investigations that will determine the real cause of the blast, the explosives type that triggered it and the circumstances leading to the unfortunate incident that led to the loss of lives and properties,” he said.
