Udiriko Festival Is Ekiti Cultural Legacy – Oyebanji

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has warned chairmen of the various local governments in the state against using his name to perpetrate illegalities, News About Nigeria reports.

The governor gave this warning while flagging off a three-day retreat for the council chairmen and other top functionaries across the 38 local government areas and local council development areas in the state on Thursday.

He noted that some people were trying to use his name to carry out suspicious moves and warned anyone involved in such a move to desist from it, as such an individual would not be spared from the consequences.

Oyebanji also debunked the claims that he had been given a million naira during the Christmas season by the local government chairmen, maintaining that he did not receive any money.

According to him, sometime around December 2023, he learned of the plans of the local government officials in each of the councils to deduct N1 million out of the money approved for the Christmas celebration, claiming they wanted to give it to him.

He, however, stated that he did not get any money or ask anybody to give him money.

“I didn’t ask anybody to deduct any money for me, and I didn’t collect any money,” he said.

He therefore urged the people to always confirm such reports before peddling them as news, adding that nobody should use his name for any fraudulent activity.

He further reiterated his commitment to remain transparent in his government, maintaining that he will not embezzle the money of the state and will also not let the council leaders spend the money recklessly.
