The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported success with its re-launched e-auction platform, where a total of 86 vehicles were successfully bid on and won by Nigerians, News About Nigeria reports.
The platform, designed for auctioning seized and overtime cargo along with automobiles, saw a substantial turnout with 1137 bids and 1099 registered applicants.
According to Abdullahi Maiwada, the National Public Relations Officer of Customs, the re-launched platform, unveiled on January 16, 2024, garnered a positive response with 652 successful payments for administration fees.
The move is in line with the newly enacted Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, reflecting the agency’s commitment to transparency and efficiency in cargo disposal.
Successful bidders have been urged to promptly download their winning certificates through the link provided in the confirmation email.
The next step for the winners is to present the certificate at the location of the goods, and the clearance process is expected to be completed within seven days.
The Customs’ statement mentioned that the auctions are periodic, occurring every Tuesday from 12 noon to 6 pm, providing regular opportunities for the public to participate, select items, and place bids.
While acknowledging occasional glitches reported by participants, potentially attributed to high traffic, the technical team is actively addressing the situation to ensure a seamless experience in subsequent exercises.
