News reaching News About Nigeria is that two more victims of Tuesday night’s explosion that rocked some parts of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, have been found dead.
According to the Oyo State Government, on Thursday, the rescue team, which is still carrying out a thorough search and investigation of where the incident happened, found the two lifeless bodies.
Speaking to Channels Television, Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, said the two recovered bodies raised the death toll from the explosion from two to five people.
In his own words,“Rescue operation is still ongoing. As of yesterday, we had three casualties, but this morning, just about 30 minutes ago, I got information from the security operatives supporting the medical team that two more dead bodies were recovered this morning.”
The Governor’s Adviser on Security also stated that a thorough investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the explosion that happened in the Bodija area of Ibadan, which reportedly destroyed over 20 houses.
Recall that Governor Makinde revealed on Wednesday that a preliminary investigation showed that the explosion was caused by illegal miners who happen to be foreigners.
The governor also revealed that 60 of the 77 victims who were hospitalised following Tuesday night’s explosion have been discharged after proper medical attention.
Also, the Federal Executive Council (FEC), after a meeting headed by President Bola Tinubu yesterday in Abuja, said it has constituted a committee that is poised with the responsibility of finding out the real cause of the explosion to avoid a repetition of such a tragic incident in the future.
