UPDATE: Seyi Makinde Links Tuesday's Explosion To Foreign Illegal Miners

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, revealed on Wednesday night that foreigners were behind the illegal mining activities that led to the explosion that rocked the state on Tuesday night.

According to the governor who made the revelation on ChannelsTV’s Politics Today, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) certificate of the mining company, which is linked with Tuesday night’s explosion that happened in the Bodija area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, showed some foreign names as owners.

Makinde further revealed that another of the victims of the tragic incident has died in the hospital, increasing the death toll from two to three.

He further revealed that about 60 of the 77 people who were rushed to the hospital had been discharged after proper medical attention.

According to the governor, though they have been able to link the foreign illegal miners to the explosion, they are yet to uncover their identities.

Makinde further noted that his administration would not relent until the illegal miners were brought to justice.

He also promised that throughout the investigation, they would be transparent and accountable to the victims and their families, residents of the state, and the nation at large, as they have nothing to hide about the explosion.

Again, the governor also sympathised with the victims of the explosion, noting that, together with the federal government and security agencies, they would ensure that such an incident would never repeat in the state.

News About Nigeria recalls that news of the explosion that rocked some parts of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, broke on Tuesday night and left residents in the state and the nation in panic as regards the cause of the said explosion.
