Residents of Kudu village in the Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have cried out against the ethnic clash ravaging the community, News About Nigeria reports.
Earlier on, a clash had ensued between the Gbagyi and Bassa ethnic groups, claiming seven lives and leaving several others injured.
It was gathered that the crisis had erupted when the Bassa ethnic group allegedly invaded a community where the Gbagyi people had settled for their farming activities.
According to a source who pleaded anonymity, the clash not only killed seven and left others injured, but also destroyed a lot of houses and farm produce worth millions of naira.
The source said that the attacks were becoming too much, stating that the government had yet to do anything to resolve the issue and restore peace in the community.
“We can no longer sleep in our houses with our two eyes closed. We really need help in the Kudu community as soon as possible,” the source added.
However, the governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, has stated that his government has come up with effective strategies that will bring an end to the ethnic clashes and restore peace in the community and state.
Sule disclosed this while presiding over an emergency executive council meeting that was held at the Government House, Lafia, on Monday.
He noted that the security agencies have been deployed to put an end to the crisis and maintain peace, adding that a meeting involving the Gbagyi, Egbirra and Bassa communities to address the overriding distrust and perceived acrimony existing between them will be held.
