Workers of the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) on Tuesday suspended the strike that they embarked on following the forceful removal of a corpse in the hospital.
The suspension of the strike was made known by the Chief Medical Director of EKSUTH, Prof. Kayode Olabanji.
The workers suspended the strike following the order by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Dare Ogundare, that a thorough investigation be done to look into the attack by hoodlums on Monday at the hospital.
According to the state police public relations officer, Sunday Abutu, who made the revelation, the CP met with the parties involved in the matter on Tuesday morning, and the police have started investigating some people who have been linked to the attack on the hospital.
In his own words, “The CP has ordered a thorough investigation into it. We (police) have had a meeting with the parties—the union, EKSUTH management, led by the CMD, the representatives of government, and the family of the deceased—and everybody was present in the Commissioner of Police’s Office this morning for a roundtable talk to see a way of resolving the matter.”
News About Nigeria gathered that the hoodlums, who are suspected to be members of a drivers’ union, reportedly stormed the hospital, destroying the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit and forcefully taking away a corpse that happens to be the father of one of their members.
Following the attack, the workers in the facility immediately embarked on a strike while raising questions about their security.
The health workers had also called on security to investigate the matter and bring the culprits to justice.
