A former National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Lai Olurode, has hailed the former governor of Osun State, Bisi Akande, describing him as an exceptional politician, News About Nigeria reports.
Olurode, who is also a retired professor of sociology at the University of Lagos, said this in a statement, congratulating the former governor on his 85th birthday.
He maintained that Akande deserved all the praise and tribute he was getting, especially in a country like Nigeria where most politicians are more concerned about the money they will get than the services they are meant to render to the people.
He noted that Akande possessed a high level of loyalty for his fellow political associates, adding that the politician was always there for his colleagues through thick and thin, in the good and bad times, never faltering.
He describes this as very commendable and worth emulating.
He further recounted how Akande stood by President Bola Tinubu, who was then a senator, during his campaign travels and travails, despite his advanced age.
He added that during the time of Akande as Secretary to the Government of the old Oyo State under the late Bola Ige, the political icon gave more attention to governance and substantive issues in place of the type of cars that officials of the state ride in.
Olurode further stated that Akande, during his time serving the country, was not after political office or the power that comes with it for personal satisfaction or power for its own sake but had a disdain for flamboyance and political jamboree.
