The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called on Nigerians to let the appropriate authorities handle the alleged misappropriation of N585 million by the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Betta Edu, News About Nigeria reports.
Onanuga made this plea on Monday, stating that the law will run its course and all those found guilty will be made to face the wrath of the law.
He maintained that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been ordered by President Bola Tinubu to carry out a comprehensive and extensive investigation into the allegations, adding that no one will be spared from the consequences of their actions.
He, therefore, called for patience on the part of Nigerians, urging them to allow the EFCC to do their work and avoid carrying out double investigations, which, according to him, will only compound the issue.
“Let us allow them to do their work. Let us not do a double investigation on the same issue or a media trial on an issue that is under investigation. Nigerians should exercise patience,” he said.
He further assured Nigerians that when the Crimes Commission is done with the investigations, the president will act on them and mete out appropriate punishments to those found guilty.
Onanuga also disclosed that the President had approved the release of N3 billion to verify the National Social Register under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He noted that the social register was created for cash transfers and other social investment programmes under Buhari.
