The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) is set to launch its portal for the application of passports online today, News About Nigeria reports.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this known while demonstrating how the online portal will work with the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Caroline Adepoju, on Friday in Abuja.
He noted that the online platform for passport application was established for both international and Nigerian applicants, adding that the platform will help make the process of passport application more easy and efficient.
Recall that the Minister in December, had announced that the Federal Government was working tirelessly to ensure a full automation system of passport application in the country.
He noted that as of December 2023, the automated application system was 99 percent done, and stated that the automation process would also include the uploading of passport photos and supporting documents.
He further disclosed that applicants from Nigeria who desired a 32-page passport with five-year validity would have to pay the sum of N25,000, while those who wanted 64-page passports with 10-year validity would pay N70,000.
He, however, noted that for foreign applicants, the prices of the passports varied, with them paying $130 for passports with a five-year validity period and 32 pages, and $230, for passports with a 10-year validity period and 64 pages.
He therefore urged candidates who are interested in obtaining the various forms of passports to submit their applications at https://passport.immigration.gov.ng, maintaining that without the submission of their applications, their passport requests will not be attended to.
