The Federal Medical Centre, Ebute Metta, Lagos, has revealed that it has put measures in place to tackle the effects of health workers leaving the country in search of greener pastures, News About Nigeria reports.
The Chief Medical Director of FMC, Dr. Adedamola Dada, disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in the state.
He noted that one of the measures the hospital has taken to stem the effects of the Japa syndrome in the health sector is to encourage medical workers who are still strong and capable and have retired to come out of retirement.
According to him, there are a lot of people who have the required skills, who are still strong, and who are retired, including specialist consultants, nurses, and a host of other health workers.
He added that this has placed the hospital in an advantageous position as these formerly retired staff form a strong foundation for the hospital and ensure that they offer the needed services and give the hospital the leverage that is needed to be able to attract newer hands.
Dada also noted that the medical centre is making conscious efforts to see to it that it creates an enabling environment for its workers, maintaining that this will persuade health workers who are still in the country to remain and not think of relocating to foreign countries to practice.
He further disclosed that the medical centre has been able to design programmes and alternatives that will ensure that they are in a position to replace some of the people who are resigning, adding that this initiative has lessened the impact of staff leaving the hospital.
