The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), on Wednesday, approved the implementation of a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy (GPAIP) for all its personnel, News About Nigeria reports.
The approval was given by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, in line with his commitment to ensuring that the personnel have access to the best while they serve the Nation.
The approval of accident insurance for the Nigerian Air Force was disclosed in a statement released by the Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet.
Gabkwet explained that the Ministry of Defence has a Group Life Assurance Policy for military personnel, which covers only the families of personnel killed in action and doesn’t address medical expenses resulting from accidents, which is why the new policy approved by the Chief of Air Staff is essential.
The Force’s Public Relations and Information Officer also stated that the new Insurance policy aligns with the Air Chief’s command philosophy, which is aimed at sustaining a highly motivated force through improved welfare and infrastructure renewal.
“While several insurance policies administered by the Ministry of Defence and the NAF Investment Limited cover all NAF personnel, they do not, however, adequately address some hazards and challenges encountered in the course of the careers of personnel.
“The need to review and implement a specialised insurance scheme designed to address these hazards and unique challenges thus became imperative,” the statement partly reads.
Gabkwet further noted that with the new insurance policy, personnel would be committed to giving their best, knowing that they could access adequate care in the case of disability or even death.
He further explained that the insurance company would provide compensation for bodily injuries, death, disablement, and payment of medical expenses for personnel of the Nigerian Air Force.
Gabkwet further explained that the contract entered into with KBC Insurance Brokers Limited will provide compensation to the families of personnel who accidentally lost their lives during operations, as well as salary reimbursement for the injured personnel in the event of hospitalisation.
