The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has assured Nigerians that his ministry will prioritise the safety of both air travellers and industry operators alike, News About Nigeria reports.
The minister gave this assurance in a statement by his spokesman, Tunde Moshood, on Tuesday, stating that the Federal Government is committed to ensuring that the highest standards of safety are provided.
He assured Nigerians that he is committed to ensuring that the minimal standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) are strictly adhered to.
He added that one of the fundamental aspects of his commitment is the protection of operators within the industry.
He maintained that it was his responsibility as the Minister and also a facilitator to collaborate and partner with airlines, service providers, and other stakeholders to create an environment that would be conducive to growth and sustainability.
Kayemo also promised to uphold and support the decisions of aviation regulatory bodies, while ensuring that safety remains a top priority.
According to him, he understands perfectly well the paramount importance of maintaining and elevating safety protocols, therefore his stance on non-interference in safety standards, will not be compromised.
Recall that the minister announced on December 22, 2023, the appointment of new directors for the agencies under the ministry, instructing them to get in touch with the Director of the Human Resources Department of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development to collect their letters of appointment as the appointment is with immediate effect.
The minister added that a new directorate called Cargo Services has been created at the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria to ameliorate issues besetting the sector.
