Edo Poll: Court Upholds Akpata As Labour Party's Candidate, Dismisses Imansuangbon’s Suit

The Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, has yet again refuted the claim that he is behind the attack on some leaders of the party belonging to the Lamidi Apapa group, News About Nigeria reports.

The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) denied this claim in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

He maintained that he had no link or connection to the attack, adding that the allegation was peddled by haters who wanted to soil his name and reputation in the state.

Recall that earlier on, a video had made the rounds on the internet of some members of the Apapa group being attacked in Edo State.

Akpata had also denied the allegation that his political aspiration of running for governor in Edo State was being sponsored by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He maintained that the peddlers of the various rumours were some disgruntled politicians and aspirants in the Labour Party, maintaining that politics in the world is capital intensive, and they should therefore not be surprised by his huge financial support for the party.

He stated that those who were uncomfortable with the fact that he was prepared financially and in every aspect to work and emerge as the party’s standard bearer should note that he has worked for 30 years as a legal practitioner and has paid his dues.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) in Edo State has denied rumours that it asked Akpata to drop off the race, maintaining that the purported source of the claim is not a member of the party.
