Without God, Doctors Are In Trouble - Bishop Onaga

The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, has stated that if doctors don’t consult God before treating patients, then they will be in trouble, News About Nigeria reports.

Bishop Onaga said this during the commissioning of the mother-and-child unit of the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital in Enugu.

The bishop noted that while it is important for doctors to be committed to helping patients, it is also important to seek the help of God, as it is God who heals.

He reminded the doctors that they are instruments in the hands of God physically and humanly and that God uses them to heal people, so they should never forget and ensure they take recourse in him at all times.

He added that as doctors begin to analyse and separate different arteries and veins in the body, they will begin to cherish and appreciate the creator for how he brought all these things together.

The cleric also promised to partner with the university to provide a befitting mortuary for the hospital, stating that he was hopeful the hospital would soon compete with other teaching hospitals in the country and beyond.

The Vice Chancellor of GOUNI, Prof. Christian Anieke, while appreciating the cleric for commissioning the hospital, noted that the hospital remained one of the giant strides of the university, adding that it was going to be one of the best hospitals not just in Nigeria but in any part of the world.

Recall that Godfrey Okoye University, GOUNI, is owned by the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and recently converted and upgraded one of its hospitals, Ntasiobi Ndino Na’ Afufu to serve as a teaching hospital to the university.
