Sterling Bank Plc has advocated that Nigerians adopt sustainable practices, stating that this will help in combating pollution in the country, News About Nigeria reports.
The Group Head, Renewable Energy, Sterling Bank Plc, Dele Faseemo, made this appeal while speaking at Alpha Beach Lagos, one of the locations for the nationwide cleaning exercise instituted by the bank.
He noted that adopting sustainable practices like the recycling of products will not only contribute to protecting the planet but will also create jobs, keep the environment clean, and foster a sense of collective responsibility in combating plastic pollution.
He disclosed that the Sterling One Foundation has a practice of cleaning up beaches and adopting them sustainably so that after the Foundation had gone, the local community would continue to keep the beaches clean, adding that in addition to ridding communities of waste, these practices will also promote healthy lives, among other benefits.
Also speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling One Foundation, Olapeju Ibekwe, noted that climate action remained one of the focus areas for the foundation, adding that for Sterling Bank, one of their focus areas for business strategy is renewable energy.
She maintained that it is essential that Nigerians increase their efforts and transition to a circular economy, where plastics are used responsibly, recycled, and repurposed.
She further noted that the Bank’s Sterling One Foundation has partnered with Green Space Depot with the support of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency (LAWMA), and has organised a community clean-up to address this urgent issue.
