Zamfara To Spend N1.95bn On Palaces

The Zamfara government has disclosed that it has a budget of N1.95 billion in 2024, which will be used for the reconstruction of 18 palaces of traditional rulers in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Ahmad Yandi, made this known on Monday in Gusau.

He noted that the reconstruction project was vital and therefore could not be overlooked.

Yandi, who appeared before the special sitting of the House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, said that the project would enhance the status of the traditional rulers and add prestige to them.

While defending the budget of the Ministry of Chieftaincy Affairs, Yandi maintained that it was part of the policy of the government to upgrade the status of the traditional institution in the state.

He added that there are other projects that have been set aside to be implemented in the 2024 budget, including the expansion of the ministry’s complex and local government service commission office, among others.

Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Shehu Baraya, disclosed that over N140 billion from the 2024 budget of the state has been earmarked for roads and other infrastructure projects in the state.

He noted that the projects include the ongoing reconstruction of major roads in Gusau metropolis under the state government urban renewal policy, the construction of drainages and other infrastructure projects across the 14 local government areas of the state.

Recall that Governor Dauda Lawal presented the state budget of N423.5 billion to the assembly for approval on Thursday.
