The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, lamented the increase in terrorism attacks in the state on Tuesday, News About Nigeria reports.
According to him, terrorists have been occupying schools in the Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state for five years without being dislodged.
The governor, who said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, also revealed that about 64 communities in the state have been displaced by terrorists.
He also stated that the lands of the people dispelled have also been taken over by the criminals.
While condemning Monday’s attack which happened in the NTV Local Government Area of the state, the governor slammed the Federal Government for its “lack of political will” to rid the state of these terrorists.
Mutfwang also described Monday’s attack as “barbaric, brutal and unjustified.”
He also called on the Nigerian military to stop the reactionary approach to fighting terrorism and to be proactive in the fight against insurgency and insecurity in the state.
It can be recalled that unknown gunmen on Monday attacked the NTV community, which is near Bokkos Local Government Area of the state, in the early hours of Monday.
News About Nigeria also learnt that, aside from the attack on the NTV community, the bandits also attacked over 20 different communities in Plateau state.
According to the state’s police command, while confirming the attack, 96 people were killed and 221 houses were burnt down.
It was also reported that more than 300 wounded people were left with various degrees of injuries and have been transferred to hospitals in the state.
