Prioritise Security Of Lives Of Nigerians - Obi To FG

The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 Presidential Election, Peter Obi on Friday queried the authenticity of President Bola Tinubu’s announcement that 50% have been slashed from transportation fare.

News About Nigeria earlier reported that President Tinubu, on Thursday, announced the slash in price by 50% in interstate transportation across the country.

In a post shared on his official X account, Peter Obi said that following Tinubu’s announcement, he set out investigation to determine the authenticity of the claim and found out that it has not been implemented as claimed by the President.

According to him, the discovery made him disappointed as the transporters in the parks in Lagos, Abuja, Anambra, Kano, Aba, Kaduna, Owerri, and Gombe where he sent people to were unaware of the 50% discount and are still collecting the normal price from Nigerians.

He also added that although the “government has again announced the few transport companies chosen to participate in the intervention for which 28 Routes have been designated, there are no announced forms of checks and balances to ensure that the transporters follow the terms of the contract.”

This according to him shows that there are obvious questions on the integrity of the President’s intervention effort as it looks that it is mere announcements that will never be carried out.

Obi also added that he prays that the supposed intervention would not end up as another way to use the media to deceive the people.

He therefore called on Tinubu to ensure that he carries out his promise to the people as Nigerians are going through hard times each day and it is insensitive for the government to deceive the people.
