Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have officially withdrew the impeachment notice previously served to Governor Siminalayi Fubara during a session held in the state capital, Port Harcourt, on Wednesday.

News About Nigeria gathered that the lawmakers met just to discuss the removal of the impeachment notification.

This decision comes after President Bola Tinubu mediated a ceasefire between the conflicting parties during a mediation meeting on Monday at the Aso Villa in Abuja.

During the session, the lawmakers, in a notice read on the house floor, said that the withdrawal of the impeachment notice was primarily in respect of the President

The lawmakers became divided over the political feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

As a result, 27 lawmakers left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The breakthrough in resolving the political crisis was achieved after a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu and other key stakeholders on Monday.

The official document lays down important rules for bringing Rivers State’s political system back to normalcy.

One of the directives included the immediate suspension of all impeachment actions brought by the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Fubara.

The document also directs the withdrawal of all legal actions taken in connection with the state’s political crisis by Governor Fubara and his team.

Acknowledgement of the 27 members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who resigned and recognition of the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt Hon. Martin Amaewhule, are also part of the directives.

Additional directives include the immediate reinstatement of remunerations and benefits for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff, without interference from the Governor.
