Lalong Urges Tinubu To Fill Plateau's Vacant Ministerial Slot

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong, is set to be sworn in today as the Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, News About Nigeria reports.

Lalong disclosed this on Tuesday, during a visit to President Bola Tinubu, stating that he will be resuming at the senate on Wednesday.

A presidential source who spoke with Vanguard confirmed the resignation of Lalong as the Minister of Labour and Employment, stating that the minister did not resign during the FEC meeting, but after.

He noted that the President or SGF would have announced it during the meeting if Lalong had done so.

It was also gathered that Lalong, a lawyer and two-term Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, tendered his resignation privately to the President after last Wednesday’s Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall that the court of appeal, sitting in Abuja, confirmed on November 7, 2023, that Simon Lalong, who was also the immediate past governor of Plateau State and doubled as the Director General of President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign Organisation in the February 25 election, was the winner of the election.

The appeal court has also sacked all the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who had earlier been declared winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the February 25 national assembly elections.

Also speaking, a Twitter user, Imran Mohammad, confirmed the development, stating that the president has accepted Lalong’s resignation.

There would be no FEC meeting this week, making last Wednesday’s session Lalong’s probable final appearance as a member of the council.
