The Lagos State Government has issued a directive for tanker and trailer drivers to vacate the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway promptly, News About Nigeria reports.
The order was disclosed in a statement by Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation.
Giwa said that the government wants to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce disruptions caused by the prolonged presence of heavy-duty vehicles in the specified area.
Giwa stated that he places a high priority on citizen safety and well-being and he advised drivers of tankers and trailers to follow the directive or risk penalties under the State Transport Reform Law.
Despite previous attempts to clear the axis of tankers and trucks, some drivers have ignored Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s directives to vacate.
Giwa said that the government’s focus is on maintaining a clear and unobstructed road network, adding that it is important to comply with the directive for the benefit of the public.
The statement read, “The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, said the directive underscores the commitment of the state government to ensuring the smooth flow of traffic and minimising disruptions caused by the persistent presence of these heavy-duty vehicles in the specified location, saying the order aims to enhance the overall mobility experience for residents and commuters in the affected area.
“Prioritising the safety and well-being of the public, the government emphasises the importance of a clear and unobstructed road network, urging tanker and trailer drivers to comply with this directive or be sanctioned in line with the State Transport Reform Law.”
