Dora Akunyili’s Son Condemns Increase In Fake Products

Edozie Akunyili, son of a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Dora Akunyili, has condemned the incessant rise in the sale and consumption of counterfeit products in the country, stating that it demeans the sacrifices of his late mother, News About Nigeria reports.

He took to his handle on X to express his concerns, questioning the worth of the sacrifices his family made for Nigeria.

According to him, nobody in the county has made sacrifices for the good of Nigeria like his family, adding that he is beginning to wonder if those sacrifices were worth it.

Edozie, who lent his voice, following the outrage over the growing prevalence of counterfeit consumer goods in markets and stores across the country, stated that his family would have done everything possible to have their parents with them, but noted that sadly, even though his parents died while serving the country, the corruption in Nigeria is now more prevalent than ever before.

He stated that corruption is moving from the top down and is seen as normal.

He further disclosed that his mother, the late Dora Akunyili, had died because she was so engrossed in her work for NAFDAC that she delayed her fibroid hysterectomy for years, which was later found to be cancerous, and it was too late to do anything by then.

Recall that the late Dora Akunyili was appointed NAFDAC DG in 2001 and served till 2009.

She died at a specialist cancer hospital in India on June 7, 2014, after a two-year battle with uterine cancer.

Her husband, Chike Akunyili, was killed on September 28, 2021, at Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
