Nairaland Server Taken Down, Seun Osewa Addresses Downtime

Nairaland, the popular micro-blogging site founded by Seun Osewa, is currently experiencing downtime after its server host took the platform offline, News About Nigeria gathered.

Users raised concerns on Monday night as they found themselves unable to access the site, leading to speculation about a potential hacking incident.

Seun Osewa confirmed the situation, explaining that the server host had taken down Nairaland due to an abuse report that was initially overlooked.

The abuse report was received on the 14th, and although Osewa promptly removed the offensive content, the server’s user interface experienced delays in being brought back online.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday morning, Osewa stated, “Nairaland’s server was taken down because I overlooked an abuse report that was originally sent on the 14th. After the takedown, I removed the offensive content.”

He further explained, “The UI for bringing back the server didn’t work so it took hours to get support on how to get that done. Minutes after the forum was brought back, they took the server down again with no warning.”

Osewa believes that the content he removed may still be cached on Cloudflare servers, leading to the prolonged downtime.

He said he has cleared the caches but awaits communication from the server host. He also expressed hope for communication from the host’s abuse team.

Users on the platform have shown support, offering suggestions on resolving the issues faster.

Some have even suggested that Nairaland should evolve into a full-fledged social media platform to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Osewa said that it could take up to 48 hours for the host’s abuse team to review and reinstate the server.
