The Federal Government has revealed its plans to invest in equipment and machinery worth N210 million to be used in restoring the Chibok community, Borno, News About Nigeria reports.
The Head of Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Grace Njoku, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja, noting that the investment will help give the community a new life and beehive of activities.
She stated that this plan was revealed by the Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, when a delegation from the Chibok community, led by its district head, Ahmadu Usman, paid a courtesy visit to the minister in Abuja.
According to her, the money will go into empowering the Chibok Community in Borno with farming equipment and other skill acquisition accessories.
She further noted that activities in the community have been crawling since the incident of the kidnapping of the students from Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, in 2014; therefore, efforts are underway to revitalise the economy of the area.
Mrs. Uju also stated that it has been agreed by the management of American University, Yola, after careful deliberations and consultation that 50 percent of the money paid by the Federal Government as school fees for the kidnapped Chibok girls in the university be invested in the community.
She added that it was a wise decision, as doing this will bring a lot of relief to the community from the psychological trauma experienced after the terrible incident, and that it is also in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration.
