Following the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State that led to the defection of over 27 members of the state house of assembly, a former presidential aide, Laolu Akande, has slammed the former governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, over his inability to maximise his position as the second most prominent politician in Nigeria.
According to Akande, he was disappointed because Wike could not use his power to manage his state and also settle the ongoing crisis.
The former spokesman to the ex-vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, also lamented that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, could not manage his successor, whom he anointed for the position.
Akande who said this in an interview on Channels Television, explained that he calls Wike the second most prominent politician in Nigeria because, in his rating, after President Bola Tinubu, the FCT Minister is the most prominent politician.
He, therefore, called on the former Rivers State governor to maximise his position and put his home (Rivers State) in order.
News About Nigeria had earlier reported that, due to the ongoing crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly, twenty-seven lawmakers from the People’s Democratic Party defected to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
It was gathered that the lawmakers who abandoned the PDP for the APC were loyalists of Wike.
Also, after their defection, the state government reportedly demolished the State House of Assembly Complex.
It was also gathered that, despite efforts by the President to settle the ongoing crisis in the state, it has yielded no fruit.
