Senate President Godswill Akpabio reportedly collapsed at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Thursday after a birthday colloquium held in his honour.
News About Nigeria gathered that the incident occurred while he was seeing off President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries who had gathered for the event.
According to sources, Akpabio was briefly stabilised at the scene before being taken to the NNPC hospital in Abuja.
He was wheeled into a special room on a stretcher, where he has remained under medical care.
“Senate President Akpabio collapsed today after his 61st birthday colloquium in Abuja while seeing the President off. He was briefly stabilized before being rushed to the NNPC hospital in Abuja where he was wheeled into a special room on a stretcher,” one source said.
Speaking at the colloquium honouring Akpabio’s 61st birthday, President Tinubu voiced confidence in the joint efforts of the legislative and executive branches of government to address Nigeria’s problems.
For the benefit of Nigerians, Tinubu underlined the necessity of a collaborative evaluation of the country’s problems in order to develop workable solutions.
“Having Senate President Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Abbas, on my side is enough for me to succeed, and we will succeed,” President Tinubu stated at the event.
“I believe in the person of Sen. Godswill Akpabio. He is truly in God’s will for his life. I was governor in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and he was a commissioner.”
As the news of Akpabio’s collapse spreads, concerns about his health have risen, prompting well-wishes and prayers for his speedy recovery from colleagues, associates, and the public.
