The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State revealed on Thursday that President Bola Tinubu was unable to settle the ongoing crisis in the state.
This was disclosed by the caretaker committee chairman of the APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha.
According to Okocha, the President tried in his capacity to settle the discord between the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his successor, Governor Simnalayi Fubara to no avail.
He further stated that the media reports making the rounds that the president was able to settle the state’s crisis are untrue, as the crisis has further deepened with the defection of the 27 lawmakers who are Wike’s loyalists.
Okocha also slammed the four members of the state House of Assembly faction, who are loyal to Governor Fubara and led by Edison Ehie, for approving the budget that Fubara presented for the 2024 fiscal year.
He also noted that the APC wants the FCT Minister to also dump his party for the APC, adding that, as soon as he becomes a member of the APC, he would become the party’s leader in the state.
Speaking on the burnt state assembly, Okocha stated that the embattled 27 members of the House of Assembly would still do their job regardless of the burnt assembly, as they don’t need the demolished House of Assembly complex or a physical structure to carry out their duties.
He therefore stated that the APC is solidly behind the 27 lawmakers who defected from the PDP to their party, noting that what they did was not an aberration.
News About Nigeria had reported that the four lawmakers led by Ehie, who are loyal to Fubara, on Wednesday declared the seats of the 27 defectees vacant.
They further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct fresh elections to replace them.
