Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has said that it is important for students and graduates to get the necessary skills in order to prosper in the modern digital age, News About Nigeria reports.
Delivered during the convocation of Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete, Kwara State, the speech stressed the importance of adopting a mentality that allows for ongoing learning, unlearning, and relearning in order to achieve long-term success.
Prof. Oloyede said that those who are skilled in navigating the triangle of learning, relearning, and unlearning will succeed, whereas people who lack this mentality will likely be unhappy all of their lives.
Speaking on the usefulness of learning, he said that knowledge loses its meaning if it is not put to use. He also described relearning as the capacity to quickly and efficiently pick up new views, abilities, and knowledge.
The expert in Islamic Studies linked differences between the Information Age of now and the past to technology’s changing nature, which presents both new possibilities and risks.
He pointed out that certain traditional jobs, such as typists, receptionists, and factory workers, are on the brink of extinction due to technological advancements.
Prof. Oloyede asked everyone to take lifelong learning seriously in response to these difficulties, stressing the importance of being flexible enough to adjust as circumstances change.
He encouraged attendees to cultivate the habit of learning, unlearning, and relearning, which he believes will set them apart and empower them to navigate challenges while seizing opportunities in the rapidly changing world.
Reacting to the lecture, the acting Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, stressed the innovative role that academic institutions have to play in equipping students for the rapidly changing digital landscape.
