The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has assured Nigerians that they are doing all they can and working relentlessly to ensure that they secure the release of the eight prospective corps members who were kidnapped on their way to the orientation camp in Sokoto, News About Nigeria reports.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Odiko Macdon said this to newsmen on Wednesday in the state capital.
Recall that the graduates were abducted by gunmen on a highway in Zamfara State on August 17, and have spent over 100 days in the kidnappers’ den.
Macdon disclosed that the Akwa Ibom police command was in close contact with its sister command in Zamfara State to ensure that the abducted graduates returned to their families safely.
He maintained that the strategies being employed by the police to secure their release would not be made public for security reasons.
The PPRO added that, though there were no updates for now, things were being done to get the corps members released.
He therefore called for calm from the families of the victims and Nigerians, reiterating the commitment of the government and the police force to seeing that the victims were released, adding that it was an unfortunate situation to be in.
Since the abduction of the eight corps members, parents and relatives of the victims have been expressing concerns that the NYSC authorities and security agencies were not doing enough to secure the release of their children.
They have pleaded with the government to come to their rescue, lamenting that they have spent over N30.8 million and yet the kidnappers have not released their children.
