COP28: Kwara Government To Incorporate Climate Education In Curriculum

The Kwara state government has revealed plans to incorporate climate education into the curriculum of schools in the state, News About Nigeria reports.

The Special Adviser on Education to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Dr. Adetola Salau, disclosed this on Sunday in Dubai on the sideline of COP28.

She noted that incorporating climate education into the curriculum of the students will play a pivotal role in achieving a sustainable state.

According to her, it was important to raise awareness about climate change across all age groups now rather than later as this will entrench a sustainable environment.

Salau also gave a preliminary plan of the key initiatives that the state had put in place to sensitize the people of Kwara on practical steps that can be taken to reduce carbon emissions and promote environmental sustainability.

She maintained that everyone, including the young and the old must be aware of the changes in climate, adding that the people had to understood the need for them to contribute to reducing their impact on the environment.

She further noted that it is of great importance that the people are sensitized on what they can do to reduce carbon emissions, recycle waste and adopt sustainable practices.

Speaking on how the state hoped to achieve this, the governor’s aide disclosed that collaborative efforts were ongoing with partners to bring the plans of establishing channels for disseminating vital information to fulfillment.

She further noted that this plan was in alignment with the discussions at COP28, adding that steps have been initiated to integrate climate education into the primary and post-primary school curricula.
