The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political organization, Afenifere, has called on the Federal Government to work toward meeting its December deadline for the operation of refineries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
News About Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu assured that the Port Harcourt refinery would commence operations by December 2023 during a recent meeting with the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and its Trade Union Congress counterpart.
In a statement released by the National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, the group also called on President Tinubu’s led government to promptly fulfil its promise to the people.
“Afenifere tasks the Federal Government to meet the December deadline given for the Port Harcourt refinery to resume production,” the statement partly reads.
The group also called on the government to intensify actions that would strengthen the value of Nigeria’s currency, reduce the costs of items in the market, and enhance productivity.
On the power sector, Afenifere tasked the Federal government to intensify efforts toward ensuring a consistent power supply as it plays a very essential and pivotal role in the economic and social lives of the people.
Afenifere further called on the FG and security agencies in the nation to take proactive steps that would be more effective in tackling the insecurity bedevilling the nation.
The group also charged President Bola Tinubu to endeavour to carry Nigerians along in his administration and to ensure that he delivers on all the promises he made to the people.
