A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has criticized the Federal Government (FG) for not including regulations on the National Assembly (NASS) maintenance fee, stating that it costs too much to maintain Nigeria’s National Assembly.
Reno made this comment on Wednesday via his official X account while discussing the 2024 budget presented by President Bola Tinubu.
In his remarks on the budget, Reno, who commended the President for excluding an allocation for fuel subsidy, expressed hope that the Federal Government plans to reduce its own costs.
He drew attention to the high cost of running the Assembly.
Moreover, while acknowledging the roles played by the National Assembly, Reno urged the President to set an example for the House members by reducing his allowance.
He also lamented the state of the nation’s economy while calling on Tinubu to consistently provide ways to rebuild the nation’s dilapidated economy.
Reno also noted that the budget failed to include concrete plans for measures to recover public funds from alleged looters from the previous administration.
He emphasized that those who unjustly received tax waivers should also “cough up back taxes,” whether they are Loyalists of the All Progressives Congress (APC) or not.
News About Nigeria previously reported that President Bola Tinubu presented the N27.5 trillion 2024 budget proposal to a joint session of the 10th National Assembly in Abuja on Wednesday.
During the presentation, the President expressed confidence in the National Assembly’s ability to facilitate deliberations on the 2024 budget.
He also highlighted that the budget was thorough, concluded promptly, and would be effective from January 1st, 2024.
