Popular political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has accused the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of impoverishing it’s people through it’s anti-poor people’s policies.

Aisha said this in a post shared on her X account in response to news that the Lagos state government destroyed 1,500 motorcycles popularly called “okada” for violating the state’s traffic law.

According to her, there is no justification for throwing 1,500 persons out of their jobs because they violated traffic rules if not that, the “Lagos State Government is on a mission to pauperize its people.”

She further stated that no government who wants the best for its citizen would carryout such harsh treatment on them in a time where the economy of Nigeria is at its worst.

The political activist also noted that instead of carrying out such grave punishment on offenders, the government could have applied other methods of punishing them instead of destroying their primary means of livelihood.

News About Nigeria reports that, Lagos State Ministry of Transportation carried out the exercise at the Crush Plant, Taskforce Yard, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday.

According to the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who spoke during the crushing of the motorcycles, the exercise is part of the state’s zero tolerance on the illegal activities.

He further charged Okada riders in the state to continue to stay off the roads because the crushing exercise and enforcement will be sustained by the government.

Osiyemi also called on the Okada riders to embrace the many alternative modes of transportation provided by the government as the government plans to inject more First and Last Mile buses into the metropolis.
