The Federal Government has revealed that the construction of the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project will commence in the first quarter of 2024.
The Minister of State, Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, made this known while receiving a delegation of envoys from the Kingdom of Morocco led by its Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Ou Ali Tagma on Monday in Abuja.
He added that it would bring about opportunities for both countries News About Nigeria reports.
According to Ekpo, Nigeria was ready and equally interested in the Gas Pipeline Project.
He added that the project was aimed at linking the European market.
He further noted that gas is to be transported through the participating countries, including Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, The Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco, which he said was to be done under the gas pipeline project.
Ekpo disclosed that the monetisation of the natural gas resources of the affected African countries will be enhanced upon completion of the gas project, adding that a new alternative export route to Europe will be accessed.
The delegation had according to report, visited the minister for a bilateral discussion on cooperation and commitment towards finalizing the Trans-Atlantic pipeline project, alongside the development of its fertiliser plant in Nigeria.
Speaking on the fertiliser project of the country, the minister noted that with the era of natural gas and components used to boost fertiliser industries, all the value chain should be exploited.
He maintained that the world is moving and natural gas was the sure way to go with low carbon emission so Nigeria had to take the utilisation of gas for prosperity serious.
