Protests broke out on Sunday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, over the removal of Abba Yusuf as the Governor of Kano State, News About Nigeria reports.
Supporters of the Kano state governor converged at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Ibadan, Oyo State, to show their displeasure at happenings in their state.
They gathered to pray and then staged a peaceful protest to press home their demands for the maintenance of the status quo in Kano State.
Recall also, last week, the people of Kano state protested following reported discrepancies in the certified true copy of the Court of Appeal judgment sacking Yusuf.
The protesters, however, warned the judiciary against any act capable of igniting a crisis in Kano and other parts of the country.
Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, Ahmad Sawaba, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Wildlife Preservation, urged the Supreme Court to carefully review the court judgments and ensure justice.
He noted that the governor was selected by the people of Kano state, emphasizing the importance of the judiciary respecting the votes of the people.
“We don’t want Kano State and any other parts of the country to be turned into a theatre of war. We are peace-loving people,’ he said.
Sawaba further noted that the discrepancy between the pronouncement of the Justices and the Certified True Copy was enough evidence that something was amiss.
He noted that the judges of the Supreme Court are highly respected, expressing his hope that the judges will justify the confidence reposed in them.
