The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has condemned the gang rape of a 20-year-old girl in Imo state.
The victim was said to be on her monthly period when she was raped by three suspects, News About Nigeria gathered.
The Force’s Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this announcement today via his X handle while responding to investigative journalist PIDOMNIGERIA on X, who brought attention to the case.
PIDOMNIGERIA had reported, “The 20-year-old girl was raped by three men in Owerri after one of them hacked her friend’s WhatsApp and used it to lure her to a location. She was on her monthly period, but they still raped her. She cried and returned home but was bold enough to confide in a male friend of hers.”
According to him, the girl has undergone a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) test, and the suspects have been taken into police custody, but he fears justice may not be attained.
He noted that he would reveal the victim’s name at a later time.
In response, the Police PRO condemned the act, stating that rape is barbaric and the case must be pursued, as the relevant Police Unit has been contacted.
He said, “We condemn this heinous act in totality. The matter will never be swept under the carpet or rug. We have contacted the Osun State Police Command to do the needful, and I will personally monitor it. Rape is barbaric, and we must do everything to curtail it.”
The PRO also commended @PIDOMNIGERIA for reporting the situation, saying, “Thanks for calling our attention to it and following through.”
