Chukwudi Odimegwu, and Nwokolo Maxwell, suspected kidnappers of the Labour Party candidate in the November 2021 Anambra State governorship election, Obiorah Agbasimalo, have been charged to Nnewi High Court.

News About Nigeria gathered that the two suspects are facing trial for the alleged conspiracy and kidnap of Obiorah Agbasimalo on September 18, 2021, at Lilu in Ihiala LGA.

The LP governorship candidate in the Anambra election, Agbasimalo, was kidnapped on September 18, 2021, at Lilu community in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State while returning from a political function and has not been found to date.

His wife, Mrs Eucharia Agbasimalo, revealed that the suspects collected a ransom of N5m, assuring her that it was for the release of her husband.

She recalled that N2.5m was paid into the account of one of the suspects, while he also collected the sum of N2.5m after promising to release the victim, which he never did to date.

Testifying before the court as a prosecution witness, Mrs Eucharia stated that the accused persons had admitted to knowing about the whereabouts of her husband while in police custody but later denied being aware when they were charged in court.

She added that the accused persons had warned her and her husband’s family against involving the media or security operatives while assuring them that they were in liaison with the kidnappers.

She further disclosed that she has been receiving threats from unknown people, leaving her and her lawyer in fear.

Justice C. N. Mbonu-Nwenyi, however, adjourned the matter to January 19, 2024, for further hearing.
