FG Explains Samoa Agreement, Says It Will Benefit Nigeria

The Federal Government has revealed plans to improve health centres across states of the federation, News About Nigeria reports. 

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed disclosed this after the National Economic Council meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, stating that all gaps, problems and challenges of funding have been dissected thoroughly.

The National Economic Council also affirmed that the government had approved its plans to renovate about 17,000 primary healthcare centres and 774 secondary healthcare centres across the country.

According to the council, the renovation and improvement of the health centres was in response to the gaps discovered in funding and the worsening metrics of healthcare in the country, which was revealed by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate, to the council, in a presentation.

Mohammed expressed sadness at the fact that the statistics showed a reduction in the health indices in the country, including infant mortality rates, maintaining that the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration aims to establish a synergy among stakeholders for deep and lasting reforms.

He, therefore, stated that the scope of the renovation the programme intends to service 17,000 primary health centres to be put on a threshold of viability, 774 secondary facilities, which are hospitals, and some tertiary institutions, adding that it was designed to ensure that medicare is brought close to most Nigerians.

The governor, however, noted that human capital and attrition of experts was a problem, including the need to develop a strategy to retain our experts to care for our health sector.
