PDP Rejects Fuel Price Hike, Calls It "Brutal Assault" On Nigerians

Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), promised the Senate on Wednesday that in the next three months, fuel will be adequate in the country,  News About Nigeria reports.

He made this announcement during a courtesy visit to the leadership of the Senate in Abuja.

According to him, the passage of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has ensured that the energy supply is stable, creating cheaper energy for the country.

Kyari noted that the corporation has robust supply plans from now until next year.

According to him, the corporation has always planned ahead and also guaranteed the president that there will not be any shortages in the country.

The GMD of the NNPCL said that the oil giant fills over 30 per cent of the downstream sector in the oil and gas industry, and the corporation will provide petroleum to customers.

He also explained that Nigeria has recovered up to N1.7 million barrels of crude oil that has been inspected by the military and independent pipeline security companies.

Kyari added that in the last 5-6 months, government security agencies have been working in a different way, producing positive results.

He mentioned the support of President Bola Tinubu, the process of containing issues of infractions in pipelines, and the action of vandals with the support of the Senate to ensure that something is done. With these measures, the confidence of investors will be restored.

He promised the leadership of the Senate that the NNPCL would reopen the Port Harcourt refinery next month and the Warri refinery would start in 2024.

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, urged the management of the NNPCL to explore ways of increasing the intake of locally produced petroleum products.
