PDP Holds Reconciliation Meeting In Enugu, Seeks Unity

The pioneer Director-General of the PDP Governors Forum, Earl Osaro Onaiwu, has expressed his disappointment in the actions of the PDP Chairman of Edo State, describing it as being divisive and harmful to the party’s unity, News About Nigeria reports.

The Director-General made this known in a statement, noting that the party could not afford any form of disunity, especially as the party prepares for the 2024 gubernatorial election in Edo State.

According to him, his criticism of the Edo PDP chairman has brought to limelight the internal dynamics within the party amidst the growing discussions surrounding the political landscape in Edo State.

Onaiwu further stressed the need for unity and collective efforts in the party as this will bring about success in the upcoming polls.

He noted that there had been divergent views on how the party should operate, stating that while some persons are of the opinion that focusing on ethnic agendas can be detrimental to the overall interest and progress of the party, others believe in the necessity of representing and addressing the concerns of specific ethnic groups within the state.

He, however, urged all members to set aside their differences and work towards a common goal, maintaining that a non-partisan approach remains the best way to secure victory in the coming polls.

He also charged PDP in the state to employ a cohesive strategy moving forward while still working towards a common objective, as this will help them navigate the challenges faced in the party.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hilary Otsu, cautioned the party against fielding an unpopular candidate in the 2024 governorship election in the state.

He further advised that internal democracy should be allowed in nominating a governorship and deputy governorship candidates in the election as that would make the party much stronger at the polls.

He said that any act of imposition or bending of the rules to favour any candidate would spell defeat for the party because it would not be accepted by the people.
