The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed that the body of the murdered Nigerian medical student, Chibuikem Emmanuel, will be repatriated from the Philippines with N35m, News About Nigeria reports.

Recall that one Michael Ojuola made a post on X on October 23, 2023, stating that Emmanuel had been murdered in the Philippines by some Chinese nationals.

The deceased’s friend, Michael Ojuola, revealed that the victim was brutally murdered by a group of Chinese who tied his hands, covered and tied his mouth, and then beat him until he died.

The Director Consular, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Enya Francis, on Tuesday, during an investigative hearing on the matter by the Senate, disclosed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was in liaison with the Embassy in the Philippines and was on top of the situation.

Ambassador Enya Francis noted that the body of the victim was yet to be brought back to the country for burial because it would cost between N31m and N35m to repatriate and bury the corpse in Nigeria while costing N10m to N15m to cremate it in the Philippines.

He further noted that it costs N30,000 daily to keep the corpse at two funeral homes, stressing the need for immediate action to be taken on the investigation and necessary steps to bring the body back to Nigeria to avoid incurring more debts.

Entreating the Federal Government through the Senate committees to assist the family in bringing the body back to Nigeria for a befitting burial, Emmanuel’s elder sister, Blessing Essien, stated that he was the only son of the family and, as is with the Igbo tradition, it would be an honour to bring the body back to Nigeria for burial.
